Did your pet go to Petpaloosa? { Auburn Photographer }

What is it about furry animals that steals my heart? I am normally a reserved and quiet person but show me a cute animal and I am a different person. I love going to Petpaloosa and seeing all of the animals that show up. I spent a lot of time on the ground loving on the dogs while talking to their owners. The people were all so friendly and the weather was great. Game Farm was so crowded that people had to park on side streets and walk in.
It is fun to see the variety of pets people bring – cats in strollers, birds on shoulders…. There was a man with a Wallaby in a pouch – I did not even know an average person could keep one for a pet.

The annual event held for animals and their families at Game Farm Park. The organizers were expecting 10,000 people and judging by the crowds, they were right! This is a fun event for family and pets.

Stephanie’s photo session last Sunday was a breeze! She was a natural in front of the camera and this session was one of my quickest in spite of shooting studio and location. She is a Riverside senior who is working on the yearbook staff as a photographer and will be going to school to become a nurse after graduating! I had a hard time choosing my favorite portrait and can’t wait to show them all of the photos from her session!

The season for senior photography is here! It will not be long and the class of 2012 will be graduated and moving on to explore their future. Washington weather has not cooperated for outdoor portraits this spring, but there are creative options to unique senior photos. The new track and tennis courts at Riverside High School are great backdrops for the senior who is active in sports!

Easter Portrait { Auburn Photographer }

Spring is upon us and Easter is just around the corner! Does your family celebrate? Have you ever taken family Easter photos or had them professionally done? In my childhood my mom dressed my sisters and I in matching dresses complete with hat and gloves. Those photos are fun to look back on. I try to take at least a few Easter candids every year, and sometimes do a whole shoot with our rabbit and the kids.

First Day of Spring { Auburn Photographer }

The calendar says today is the first day of spring. However, the weather has been snow and hail mixed for most of the afternoon so I do not believe it is going to feel like spring anytime soon! I thought growing up in Washington had made me immune to the gloom that our wet winters bring to people who move here but this winter I am feeling the cold and wet! I am ready for some sun and brightness! If the weather won’t cooperate then I will create it myself!

Spring Cleaning? A personal post… { Auburn Photographer }

Yesterday my son was sick and stayed home from school. What started out as an effort to kill some cold and flu germs turned out to be a frenzy of cleaning. Do you notice that once you start cleaning one thing it snowballs? I blame it on the sunny weather and my mom’s training in spring cleaning.
I have an excellent kitchen degreaser that is non-toxic. Mix two cups of water, one tablespoon baking soda, two tablespoons vinegar and one tablespoon of Dawn regular dish soap. This will fizz a bit at first. I use this on tile, cabinets, the stove, microwave and everything else I can think of. It works great on the ceiling fan and wooden blinds, too.
My kitchen is gleaming but I went to bed last night thinking of everything else that I could tackle next. Is it a sickness to be unable to sleep at night because you are planning your spring cleaning projects?

The Pet Portrait Fundraiser for the Auburn Valley Humane Society was so much Fun! The event was to support a good cause, but spending a day playing with dogs was the result. I met a lot of very nice people who are very committed to their pets.

Auburn Valley Humane Society Fundraiser { Auburn Pet Photographer }

I an pleased to announce that Tyson Studio is hosting a fundraiser for the Auburn Valley Humane Society. The AVHS is set to open January of 2013 and is currently in fundraising and adding memberships stage. The benefits to our community will be a facility dedicated to the needs of the animals in our town, but also working with our neighboring communities. I am so excited to be involved in this event! If you have never been to an animal shelter you should go visit one to see what they are like. I have a personal story to share… when I was five my dad picked out a puppy for us. He was a pomeranian with something else mixed in – yes, a mutt! (His mother was a purebred pom and somehow got mixed up with the wrong crowd.) My only memory of that event is the little puppy on the car seat beside us on the drive home. Our dog was very much a part of our family and went everywhere the kids went. One day years later he followed my younger sister and some neighborhood kids one day and didn’t come home. We searched for three days before the King County Animal Shelter in Kent called to say they had our dog. Someone had found him down by the Auburn Golf Course and called Animal Control. He had wandered through the canyon for days in the winter, one of the few times we had snow! When we brought him home his eyesight started going and he could only see shapes in daylight. We were just grateful to have him back! He was 14 years old. In spite of our search efforts we would not have found him by ourselves. We need facilities like these!
